Working as a Black International Educator overseas

When I taught in China, my coworkers and students struggled to understand my home origins. It’s something I’ve faced many times in my career, and it has challenged me to reflect on what it means to be an “American” – which, like many Black Americans, can be a complicated part of our identity.
